SBI Bank Statement PDF Password — What It Is and How to Open It
June 11, 2026 · 5 min read
What is the SBI e-statement PDF password?
When State Bank of India emails you an account statement, the PDF arrives encrypted. The password is your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format — no spaces, no dashes, no slashes. A customer born on 15 August 1990 would type 15081990 exactly like that. The same rule applies whether the statement is emailed monthly, downloaded from YONO, or fetched from net banking.
If the password is rejected, it is almost always because the date of birth on the bank record does not match what you are typing. The most common mistakes are a two-digit year, the wrong holder's date of birth on a joint account, or copying the date with dashes from another document. Re-check the DOB recorded against the primary holder of the account and try again.
Password guide for all major Indian banks
Most Indian banks default to date of birth in DDMMYYYY for retail account statements, but a few — notably ICICI and PNB — use a different scheme. The table below covers the banks accountants and CAs handle most often.
| Bank | Password format | Example |
|---|---|---|
| SBI | Date of birth (DDMMYYYY) | 15081990 |
| HDFC Bank | Date of birth (DDMMYYYY) | 15081990 |
| ICICI Bank | Account number + DOB (DDMMYYYY) | 001234567890 15081990 |
| Axis Bank | Date of birth (DDMMYYYY) | 15081990 |
| Kotak Mahindra | Date of birth (DDMMYYYY) | 15081990 |
| Yes Bank | Date of birth (DDMMYYYY) | 15081990 |
| Punjab National Bank | Customer ID or DDMMYYYY | 12345678 or 15081990 |
How to open a password-protected bank statement PDF
Once you know the format, opening the file is straightforward. Download the statement from your bank's portal or email, then open it in a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview on macOS, or a Chrome tab. The viewer will prompt for a password before showing any pages — enter the DOB in DDMMYYYY format and submit.
If you plan to keep an unlocked copy on your machine, print the document to a new PDF from the file menu. That produces an unencrypted version you can store, share with your accountant, or upload into a converter. Treat the unlocked file with the same care as the original — it still contains every transaction on the account.
Skip the unlock step.
Upload the password-protected PDF directly to StatementSync. Enter the statement password during upload and download a Tally XML, Zoho CSV, or Excel file in 30 seconds.
